Bridging the Gap: Networks, Hierarchies and Impact

The Collaborative Doctoral Partnership (CDP) conference is an opportunity to share and discuss the particular circumstances CDP students meet as a new generation of researchers. Based in research-led, professional environments we collaborate with a diverse range of institutions and stakeholders to communicate our research engagingly to a wide audience. While this position opens up new opportunities, it also offers challenges and raises questions. The 2018 conference will explore the networks in which we find ourselves as CDP students; issues of hierarchy; relationships and innovation between disciplines; institutions and ways of knowing.

Submissions

We welcome abstracts of approximately 250 words by Friday 15 June for:

  • Individual presentations of 15 minutes
  • Collaborative / group presentations of 30 minutes.

Submissions should be focused around research methodologies, impact, outputs, or the issues of negotiating networks, hierarchies and boundaries. They might consider:

  • What theoretical frameworks or practical strategies and innovations have been helpful to you in conducting research as a CDP student?
  • What can we learn from practice-based research approaches?
  • What do different media (e.g. written/spoken word, text, image, object) offer to individual research projects or the research community?
  • How does the ‘double vision’ of the CDP affect relationships across disciplines and professions?
  • How might researchers fulfill their responsibility to communicate across audiences?
  • What impact does a CDP project have on the shape, content or practical applicability of research outputs?

We welcome submissions in the form of papers as well as more collaborative or performative formats. Be bold, be creative! Contact us if you have an idea that would require something out of the ordinary and we will do our best to accommodate your ideas. PowerPoint is of course welcome, but not compulsory.

Each panel will conclude with a discussion in which the presenters will field questions collectively, in order to draw out more creative reflections on the synergies and conflicts between disciplines and approaches.

keynote speaker to be confirmed.
